As a response to the European Commission’s 2050 decarbonization goals, sEEnergies uniquely considers all aspects of the Energy Efficiency (EE) First Principle. By applying it in sectors and markets, country-by-country and grid-by-grid, and by combining temporal and spatial analyses, sEEnergies developed an innovative, holistic and research-based EE-modelling approach.
The overall aim of sEEnergies was to quantify and operationalize the potentials for energy efficiency in buildings, transport, and industry. The project went beyond state-of-the-art science-based knowledge and methods, as it combined sectorial bottom-up knowledge with hour-by-hour modeling of the 100% renewable energy systems and spatial analysis in each EU27 country including the United Kingdom.

Building sector analysis for each country
The building sector heat demand energy efficiency potential was analysed in each country and further details are provided in Work Package 1 here.
Transport sector analysis for each country
The transport sector energy efficiency potential was analysed in each country using TransportPLAN. TransportPLAN is a very detailed national transport scenario modelling tool that consists of MS Excel Spreadsheet that enables users to created numerous transport scenarios relatively quickly and easily.
TransportPLAN country files can be downloaded following the country links above.
Industry sector analysis for each country
The industry sector energy efficiency potential was analysed in each country using IndustryPLAN. IndustryPLAN is a tool for analyzing industrial energy demands of European countries. The tool is developed as a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet using a combination of Excel functions and VBA coding, making the tool accessible to a wide audience.
IndustryPLAN country files can be downloaded following the country links above.
Energy grids cost analysis
Detailed analysis of grid costs for thermal, electricity and gas grids was used to design the 100% renewable energy system in each country. The results for grid costs are presented in Work Package 4 here.
Spatial analysis of energy efficiency potential
Detailed spatial analysis of energy efficiency potentials in Europe is presented in the PETA5.2 maps and data is provided at the Open Data Hub.
